[ and he is, before too long. he came directly from the campus since he'd been working on some lesson plans--he doesn't mind breaking from it for levi though, to show up at his place on a moment's notice. he knocks.
[ the door opens almost immediately, sort of like he's just been waiting by the door. he steps aside to let Erwin inside without a word.
his apartment is... well, it's clean, almost too clean, and sparsely decorated. he's either real into minimalism or he just has no sense for interior design. there is evidence that a cat also lives here, but there's no cat to be seen.
he shuts the door behind them, locks it, and then leans back against it. so much for their tea date. ]
Sorry. I know we had planned to...
[ he trails off there. will Erwin even want to go somewhere with him after this? he doesn't know. between that and how stupid he's about to sound, he's frustrated, but it only comes out as a sigh. ]
—Look, you're probably gonna think I've lost it, but I had... a weird dream.
[ that's a little weird, but erwin accepts it and just... steps in when levi lets him, not perturbed when levi locks the door because it's pretty normal to keep your door locked. who leaves their door unlocked? levi isn't a serial murderer that's going to chop him up in the bathtub, he's just being smart.
uh, anyway.
levi leaning back against the door like that is a little weirder, as is the apology. he shakes his head in response to it, waving a hand like he's saying 'there's no need' because there isn't. this seems more important so he's here for it.
the explanation he gets is surprising to say the least, but erwin is the kind of guy that puts stock in the possibility of visions, so he's not discounting a dream seeming real enough to be causing this kind of distress. he nods and he wants to reach out to touch levi's shoulder but he refrains, fingers twitching at his side. ]
I don't think you've lost it, but let's sit down before we talk about this. What happened in it?
[ there's a fleeting moment of bizarre deja vu as he stands there, back against the door, and looks at Erwin sitting across the room. it's so weirdly similar to the dream he had.
what the fuck.
anyway, he crosses over to sit next to Erwin on the couch, quiet for another moment before he continues. ]
It was... you. And me. But not exactly? I don't know, it makes no fucking sense, but I've never had a dream like that before. It felt more like I was reliving something from a past life or something.
[ god this sounds SO stupid. he's actually flushing a little from embarrassment already. why is he even doing this? ]
[ levi should know better than to think erwin of all people is going to think the confession sounds stupid. sometimes a man do be a certain way, aka fully believing in past lives and dream memories and visions. because he believes in everything else, so why not?
why NOT.
he frowns a little though, the tiniest twitch of his mouth, just because it sounds familiar in a way he wants to pursue. ]
Tell me what happened in it. It's possible it could just be a weird dream, but I want to hear about it before I pass judgment.
[ you're right, what the fuck was he thinking? Erwin is extremely smart, but he's also, uh... let's go with 'open-minded.' really open-minded.
it's just as well, considering the nonsense that's about to come out of his mouth. he hesitates, avoiding eye contact for now. where does he even start? ]
I was... trying to convince you not to go somewhere. I must have thought you'd die if you did. But I couldn't talk you out of it.
[ he's conveniently leaving out the touching moment where he threatened to break both of Erwin's legs. and also the indescribable feeling of dread when it didn't work. haha, whoops. ]
he winces before the implication of what Erwin is saying hits him. fortunately, it does hit him before he has the chance to awkwardly try to explain himself. what kind of person says something like that? jesus christ.
anyway, that'll get him to finally look Erwin in the eyes again. that's... not quite the response he was expecting. ]
—What? Really?
[ how is he supposed to feel about that? relieved that it's not just him losing his marbles? horrified that this might not have been a dream at all? there's definitely more worry on his face than hope, which is rare enough on its own.
[ on the opposite end, erwin doesn't seem perturbed by it at all. he seems a little eager even, like it's a fascinating phenomenae and not anything unsettling. he can tell levi is offput by it though, and he frowns briefly as he considers his options. ]
Dream sharing isn't impossible, often when two people are linked they can have the same dreams to the point of seeming eerie. As for the content though, I'm a little lost. It's nothing I can recognize, but I'm sure it means something.
[ a soft sigh. ]
I just don't know what. Have you had it more than once, or just the one time?
Just the once. It felt like something I must have dreamed about a bunch of times, but I haven't. I don't know, that probably doesn't even make any fucking sense.
[ he sighs, clearly frustrated. why is this even happening? he feels like an idiot.
I felt very familiar with it too, it took me off-guard how well I felt like I knew the order of things and how they went. I'm still not sure what to make of the whole thing.
[ he hums noncommittally because he just got busted. ]
Well, we've known each other long enough and we've connected well enough that it seems obvious if something like this happened, it would happen to us.
[ what was he expecting to hear? what did he want to hear? he's not sure, actually. all this shit was perplexing to him even before the weird flashbacks started coming into the picture.
his gaze drops back into his own lap. ]
To be honest, the way it felt is sticking with me a lot more than any of what actually happened.

he hasn't put much thought into shared dreams, but everything levi says just strikes another chord, down to missing an arm.
that part rattles him in a way, but not enough to visually express any distress. instead he just tilts his head a little, and: ]
Did you happen to threaten to break both of my legs?
[ a beat, and then: ]
I've had the same dream.
